Overview of responsibilities:  

Demonstrate machining, welding and detailing know-how and people skills to provide hands-on supervision of our machinists, welders, and detail technicians in the setup and operation of machine tools, welding equipment, and finishing hand tools. Directly responsible for the performance of the CNC mill, CNC lathe, manual and laser employees on all shifts. Directly responsible for safely and effectively managing people, equipment, and the facility to support production needs.

  • Implement corrective and disciplinary actions as needed 
  • Ensure timely compliance with Company workplace policies and procedures, including human resource policies and safety 
  • Maintain effective interface with other operations supervisors and other departments (i.e. Engineering, Quality, CNC, Weld, Manual & Clean) to optimize production and process improvement activity 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date process documentation 
  • Analyze operations and resolve operational issues by determining root cause and implementing change 
  • Achieve operational and production objectives 
  • Wiliness to operate all equipment in your department when needed 
  • Build and maintain a safe, clean organized working environment (6S) 
  • Recommend and implement improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: 

Required 

  • 10 years machining experience 
  • Associate degree in a manufacturing field or a certificate from a Trade or Technical school in manufacturing 
  • 5 years of supervisory experience. 
  • A record of success in a leadership role, with demonstrated ability to build a team, coach, train, develop, and manage employees exhibiting strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Extensive knowledge of dimensional inspection practices (GD&T, CMM, Hand Tools) 
  • Working knowledge of programming (G-Code and Cam software) 
  • Knowledge of 6S and how to maintain the program. 
  • Ability to problem solve issues quickly 
  • Experience in Root Cause analysis and implementing effective Long-Term Corrective Action 
  • Effective communication skills across multiple shifts 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to stressful and/or changing situations. 
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic computer skill 
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist and lift up to and including 60 lbs. unassisted. Assistance must be used for any items over this weight. Assistance is always required for anything weighing over 60 lbs. 

Preferred 

  • Skilled in applying continuous improvement practices. 
  • Current knowledge of tooling for best practice of material removal 
  • Experience with purchasing and negotiating capital investments. 
  • Experience with interviewing, hiring, and disciplining employees. 
  • Experience executing employee reviews. 
  • Previous manufacturing experience in the vacuum industry
