Overview of role:The
Welder is responsible for laying out, cutting, fitting, tacking, and welding a variety of complex assemblies using the
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process. This role ensures all fabrications meet specified drawing tolerances and includes the completion of in-process inspection documentation. Typical welded components include box chambers, spherical and cylindrical chambers, bell jars, service wells, half and full nipples, various sizes of tees, adapters, and gas fittings.
Responsibilities:- Reads moderately complex blueprints and interprets most weld symbols.
- Identifies and reports drawing errors.
- Weld in flat, vertical and overheard positions
- Accurately lays out and secures parts using standard tools.
- Operates floor-mounted rotary positioners safely.
- Uses precision measuring tools (calipers, rulers, feeler gauges, pi tapes) effectively.
- Consistently fits, tacks, and welds box and cylindrical chambers.
- Uses plasma cutting torch for proper fitment.
- Completes data sheets with minimal assistance.
- Adheres to company policies, safety standards
- Performs other assigned duties.
QualificationsRequired:- High School Diploma or GED
- 4–7 years of experience with Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
- Strong math skills and ability to read mechanical drawings
- Physically capable of bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and lifting up to 60 lbs unassisted (assistance required for anything over 60 lbs)
- Certified to operate a 5-ton crane
Preferred:- Ability to produce quality vacuum tight aluminum welds
- Certificate from a vocational/trade school or community college
- Completion of an accredited welding apprenticeship program
