Overview of the RoleThe
CNC Shop Supervisor is responsible for
hands‑on machining and
day‑to‑day supervision of the shop to ensure quality, efficiency, and on‑time delivery. This role will set up and operate
CNC equipment—including Haas Automation TL‑1 CNC lathe, VF‑4 CNC mill, and the plasma table—while providing leadership, training, and workflow coordination for the team.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment, including Haas TL‑1 lathe, VF‑4 mill, and plasma table
- Supervise shop personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production
- Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs; use Haas Visual Part Programming for simple operations and Mastercam for more complex operations
- Plan, prioritize, and manage workflow to support production schedules and on time delivery
- Provide technical leadership, training, and troubleshooting support to the team
- Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure timely availability of materials, tooling, and department supplies
- Enforce work instructions, safety requirements, company policies, and 6S methodology
- Perform layout, setup, machining (manual and CNC), and tool setting to manufacture components for vacuum deposition equipment
- Interpret and apply GD&T requirements
- Select, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling
- Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications
- Perform leak detection and evaluation using established quality methods and processes
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment per manufacturer guidelines
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of tooling and fixtures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications- 5–10 years of experience in manual and CNC machining, inspection processes, and final detailing of precision components
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist, and lift up to 60 lbs unassisted (assistance required for items over 60 lbs)
Preferred Qualifications- 5+ years of supervisory or lead experience
- Mastercam programming knowledge
- 3–5 years of welding experience, specifically GTAW (TIG) processes
- Experience with components used in vacuum technology is strongly preferred.
- Experience using a helium mass spectrometer leak detector
- Working knowledge of gas tungsten arc welding and machining of materials used in vacuum technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
